A person who opposed my argument, Facebook really is an addiction, is psychiatrist Vaughan Bell. She says that “Internet addiction researchers conceive of the Internet as if it were a set of activities when, in fact, it’s a medium for communication.” She believes addiction can only occur in substances and activities, not mediums. She puts Internet addiction in the same category as “reading books, going for walks, chatting to friends and any other enjoyable activity.” These activities may be compulsive but does not make them an addiction. Psychologists have gone into more research about Internet and Facebook addiction and came to the conclusion that a person can really become addicted to the Internet, in my case, Facebook. They titled it the Facebook Addiction disorder. The basic summary of an addiction is one's desire and crave for a substance or behavior. If a person is constantly having the urge to be on Facebook, then it is considered an addiction.
